"About Windows" information:
The Windows version (winver.exe) Windows OS command identifies the version of Windows.

The winver.exe command displays: "About Windows".

Operating System information in Windows 8.1/8 or Windows RT:
On the Start screen, type "winver", tap or click Apps, and then tap or click "winver.exe".

Operating System information in Windows 7 or Windows Vista:

Method 1: 

Click the Start button, type "winver" in the search box, and then press Enter.

The "About Windows" appears.

Method 2:

Right-click the Computer icon. Select Properties. The Control Panel appears. The Control Panel includes Windows edition information

Click the Start button, click Run, type "winver" and then press Enter.
